POSITION SUMMARY
The Sr. Reinsurance Operations Accountant reports directly to the Reinsurance Manager and is responsible for ensuring accurate cession processing, administration, and reporting of reinsurance portfolios. The role will focus heavily on reconciling reports (cession statements) to ensure proper set ups have been processed. Review of configuration set ups and system rules will be required to ensure accuracy of data. Collaboration with system administrator to work through system issues will also be a key responsibility.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Audit cessions and loss ratio reports to ensure accuracy and ensure 100% of the data is accounted for.
- Auditing cession statements against configuration of system.
- Reconciling cession reports against business processed.
- Identifying errors and variances and working with the appropriate departments to fix the issues.
- Working closely with system administrator on any issues that arise having to do with system bugs or functionality issues. Including troubleshooting, providing examples, submitting tickets with recommended suggestions for correction, and testing.
- Review cession set ups to ensure reporting matches schedule allocations
- Assist with monthly and quarterly reinsurance functions including cession analysis, manual reinsurance calculations, term adjustments, financial analysis and account reconciliations.
- Assist the internal, external, and reinsurer audits process to ensure accuracy of data provided for review
- Supervise the month end close process to ensure timely and accurate cessions, by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information by the designated deadlines
- Assist with external audits, including gathering and preparing required documentation
- Identify and establish new procedures/processes in a constantly changing and expanding environment. Including communicating to appropriate teams and creating SOP’s.
- Work with Finance/Accounting department to address issues, questions, etc.
- Analyze reports, schedules and cessions to explain monthly variances
- Special projects as assigned by immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 5+ years of direct involvement in accounting (analysis of reinsurance preferred)
- Proficient MS Office, including advanced Excel skills, pivot tables and complex formulas required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage, prioritize and effectively meet deadlines working on multiple assignments simultaneously
