In This Role, You Will
- Own the full-cycle accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and monthly close.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, delivering variance analyses and actionable financial insights to the VP/CFO and President/CEO.
- Lead construction job costing by tracking project costs, monitoring budget-to-actual performance, identifying variances early, and providing project-level financial reporting to field supervisors and executive leadership.
- Develop and implement a process for tracking and invoicing value-engineering savings and shared-savings contract provisions.
- Partner with field leadership to establish practical job-level cost documentation processes, including materials purchases, field change decisions, and scope adjustments, to improve job costing accuracy and project profitability as the business continues to scale.
- Oversee payroll processing for approximately 25 W-2 employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all federal and Georgia payroll tax requirements.
- Manage accounts receivable and contract-based project billing, including progress billings, change orders, and collections with utility clients.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records for an approximately 92-unit equipment fleet while partnering with the VP/CFO on equipment financing, lease obligations, and capital planning.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, Georgia, and local tax requirements while coordinating with external CPA firms and tax advisors.
- Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures appropriate for a growing construction company.
- Support executive leadership with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, financial planning, and scenario analysis.
- Coordinate with external auditors, bonding companies, insurance providers, and lenders to ensure all financial documentation required for surety bonding and utility vendor qualification is maintained.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role with full ownership of the accounting function.
- Experience in construction, heavy civil, utilities, or another project-based industry strongly preferred; hands-on construction job costing experience is highly desirable.
