Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized, hands-on Controller to lead all day-to-day accounting operations for a private equity-backed construction and specialty contracting company. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills and experience managing AP, AR, general ledger, and inventory processes in a fast-paced, project-based environment. This role will work closely with the CFO to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations
- Oversee all core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and inventory
- Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Define roles, establish processes, and provide training to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Controls, Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and prevent errors/fraud
- Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements
- Assist in preparing reporting packages
- Inventory & Job Costing
- Oversee inventory tracking and reconciliation processes
- Work with operations to ensure accurate job costing and allocation of materials to projects
- Identify and implement improvements to streamline inventory and cost tracking
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve data integrity
- Develop and maintain accounting SOPs and documentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction or related project-based industries
- Experience managing AP, AR, inventory, and job costing
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and month-end close procedures
