Senior Payroll Processor
Position Summary
The Senior Payroll Processor is responsible for managing and processing accurate, compliant, and timely payroll for a multi-state workforce. This role requires deep knowledge of payroll regulations, experience working across multiple payroll systems, and the ability to independently resolve complex payroll issues. Management or team leadership experience is preferred to support process oversight, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end payroll for employees across multiple U.S. states in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and taxes
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and regulatory changes affecting multi-state payroll
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Manage payroll audits, tax filings, amendments, and year-end processes (W-2s, etc.)
- Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll systems, data integrity, and best practices
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure accurate employee data and deductions
- Provide guidance, training, or oversight to junior payroll staff as needed
- Support process improvements, system implementations, and payroll system integrations
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience
- Demonstrated experience processing multi-state payroll
- Strong understanding of federal and state payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience working with multiple payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paychex, UKG, Ceridian, etc.)
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools
- Ability to manage deadlines and handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous management or team-lead experience in a payroll function
- Experience supporting payroll system conversions or implementations
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or other payroll-related certification
- Experience working in a fast-paced or high-growth environment
