SUMMARY
Transportation Manager is responsible for directing and overseeing transportation – related operations within the organization. Accountable for supervising daily operations, monitoring performance, identifying safety issues, and resolving conflicts of a multi-temperature, technology-driven warehouse with a focus on safety, efficiency, and productivity. They also assist in the training and development of transportation personnel.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
•    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or in a related field preferred.
•    Or 10 plus years of experience within the transportation industry or fleet management.
•    Prior managing or owner operator experience for issues with legalities, finance and logistical support surrounding transportation a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS
•    Excellent time management skills regarding staff priorities.
•    Customer oriented, maintaining relations with carriers and drivers.
•    Financial abilities including the management of revenues and rate calculations.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Provide Logistical and Transport services for the company nationwide.
•    Manage associates within the Transportation Department furnishing transport and Logistical solutions for Company.
•    Work hand in hand with shipping/receiving to maximize productivity regarding the scheduling of transport delivering and picking up products from various points throughout the United States.
•    Work closely with Customer Service resolving issues with short lead orders, revisions and equipment availability.
•    Communicates constantly with production scheduling regarding issues with product availability and their needs for incoming materials.
•    Provide an open door for Buyers providing access to transport for their incoming material needs.
•    Researching transportation costs and methods and opportunities to improve network efficiency
•    Communicating with production managers about the status of incoming supplies
•    Writing policies for handling transportation issues and delayed shipments
•    Investigating lost product and mis-shipments, developing solutions
•    Scheduling employees in transportation roles
•    Developing transportation routes
•    Creating a timeline for each part of the transportation cycle
•    Analyzing information about delivery times and expenses to minimize future costs
•    Managing and reporting shipping and delivery times and costs
•    Maintain Transportation and Carrier files and update accordingly to ensure Company a safe and compliant carrier base.
•    In the absence of the Transportation Manager the Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for his/her job functions and responsibilities.
•    Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production requirements.
•    Responsible for ensuring food safety, food defense and compliance with federal, state, local, & other appropriate regulatory laws or guidelines. 
•    Must be able to work additional hours or beyond standard schedule with little or no notice.
•    Performs other duties assigned as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Will manage, train, evaluate, and oversee Transportation Clerks.
•    Oversees the daily workflow of the department’s area of responsibility; schedules and organizes 
staff to ensure proper staffing of all shifts.
•    Hires and trains new employees within their area of responsibility.
•    Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
•    Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
•    OSHA Safety Certification
•    Commercial Drivers’ License
•    Certified Supply Chain Professional
•    Hazmat Transportation Safety 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Determining timeframe: Never = 0 hours daily; Occasionally = 3 hours daily; Frequently = 3-6 hours daily; Constantly > 6 hours daily

•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
•    Be able to stand for at least an eight to twelve (8-12) hour period.
•    Be able to lift, carry, handle and grasp at least 35 lbs (Constantly)
•    Be able to lift, carry, handle and grasp at least 50 lbs (Occasionally)
•    Be able to push and pull a wheeled pallet jack or rack to move items weighing up to 400 lbs.
•    Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist up to 50 lbs (Occasionally)
