An internship\u00a0affords\u00a0students and graduates\u00a0the\u00a0chance to acquire\u00a0first-hand exposure of working in the real\u00a0world.\u00a0It provides multiple opportunities to harness\u00a0your\u00a0existing skills and knowledge, while simultaneously\u00a0improve your skillset as you learn\u00a0from the people who have been doing\u00a0the job many years.\u00a0\u00a0This provides you with experiences, lessons and the tools needed to excel when you enter the job market as an official\u00a0employee, and\u00a0carries a lot of weight when trying to prove your mettle to a hiring manager. In addition, they are great\u00a0to have on\u00a0a\u00a0resume and can often lead to a\u00a0full-time job offer at the company you\u2019re interning\u00a0at,\u00a0 come the end of your internship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"zw-paragraph\" data-textformat=\"{&quot;size&quot;:11}\" data-margin-bottom=\"0pt\"><span class=\"EOP\">\u00a0<\/span>Make use of connections. That means asking your network of family and friends to find out\u00a0if there are any\u00a0junior\u00a0positions available at their companies. Most applicants don\u2019t apply for jobs\u00a0when they don\u2019t meet the list of requirements\u00a0because they feel\u00a0that they won\u2019t be successful.\u00a0However, in some instances when a list of candidates\u00a0isn\u2019t necessarily ideal,\u00a0companies may consider a college graduate. This works in their\u00a0favor as\u00a0graduates come with a clean slate\u00a0and can thus be\u00a0molded and shaped into the employee that the company needs them to be.\u00a0Although you shouldn\u2019t apply for every position that becomes available, it is worth trying your hand at positions even when you feel you might not\u00a0fit the requirements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"zw-paragraph\" data-textformat=\"{&quot;size&quot;:11}\" data-margin-bottom=\"0pt\"><span class=\"EOP\">\u00a0<\/span>Finally, know your strengths and weaknesses and highlight your strengths in your application. Make sure\u00a0to\u00a0emphasize your excitement and motivation for the position and the opportunity to add value to the company.\u00a0Just like people, businesses have a\u00a0personality.
